Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - Baton Rouge, LA

  • Robert A. Bogan Fire Museum - 427 Laurel St., Baton Rouge, LA 70801 (map)

Tunnel to Towers, the race is October 18th in downtown Baton Rouge at the Bogan Fire Musuem. This organization was formed after 911 when a fire fighter Stephen Silver lost his life in the twin towers.  He lived in Brooklyn, New York and when the twin towers came down he was in Brooklyn,  He put his gear on and ran through the Brooklyn Tunnel to Manhattan to the Twin Towers to help rescue people. He lost his life that day.  His brothers formed the Tunnel to Tower Foundation to help the families of fallen first responders and fallen soldiers.  This organization is near and dear to my heart as my daughter lost her father in Afghanistan in 2009 and was a direct receipent of a scholarship from Tunnel to Towers.  Also, my co-chairman is a recipient of the mortgage free benefit that Tunnel to Towers provides to help pay off the mortgage of families of fallen solidiers and first responders as she lost her husband while serving our country in Syria.  There are a 12 families just in Louisiana alone that have received benefits from this awesome non profit.
